Schedule Details

DAY 1 - Yuksom to Tshoka (3050 meters) (Trek: 6-7 Hours)

Yuksom Goechala trek begins with your arrival in Yuksom and takes you for a 6-7 hours trek through the picturesque Rathong Valley. In this part of the trek, you will be hiking through some of the semi-tropical forests and start gaining altitude.

Day 2 - Tshoka To Dzongri (4030 meters) (Trek: 5-6 Hours)

On this day, you will have maximum fun, excitement and adventure as you will be trailing through zigzag terrains which are enthralling in themselves. As you trek further through these trails, you will reach Phedang. Trekking around 300 meters from Phedang, you will finally reach the campsite/hut in Dzongri.

Day 3 - Dzongri-La Top (4030 meters) (Trek: 5-6 Hours)

Early morning around  2-3 am we will start our climb to Dzongri top (4270 Mt) to watch the stunning panoramic view of Sunrise on Mt. Kanchenjunga (8534 m),  and surrounding peaks Kabru (7353 m), Ratong (6678 m), Koktang (6147 m), Pandim (6691 m) and Narsing (5825 m)

After returning to camp/hut you’ll have to rest for the day in Dzongri to get prepared for the next part of the the trek.

Day 4 - Dzongri to Thangsing (3930 meters) (Trek: 5-6 Hours)

Today’s trek will take you through the gorgeous Prek River. Trekking along this high-altitude river, you will reach the picturesque and grassy meadow of Thangshing. After getting into the camping hut in Thangshing, you can witness the awe-inspiring views of Kanchendzonga and Mt. Pandim.

Day 5 - Thangsing to Lamuney (4130 meters) (Trek: 2-3 Hours)

As you get started with the trek of the day, the amazing views of Mt. Pandim will give you company till you reach Samiti Lake. From beside the lake, you can catch the most wonderful views of the Kanchendzonga and other Himalayan ranges. Trekking beside the lake will also offer you the first views of a heavenly glacier. From here, you will be hiking through areas ringed with prayer flags till you reach Lamuney. Overnight stay will be in camps/huts.

Day 6 - Lamuney to Goechala View Point 1 (4940 meters) (Trek: 2 Hours)

The trek for today will begin very early in the morning; by 2.00-3.00a.m The trails from here onwards will be rocky, crossing water streams & lakes you have to be extremely careful from here. Trekking ahead, you will finally reach the gorgeous Goechala Viewpoint 1 at a height of 4940 metres. Encircled with colourful flags, offering demanding views of the Kanchandzonga Peak and Talung Glacier.

Note – Same day we will trek down to Thangsing.

Day 7 - Thangsing to Tshoka (3000 meters) (Trek: 5-7 Hours)

Today morning, you will be retracing your previously trekked routes and finding your way back to Tshoka.
Arrive in the village of Tshoka and get into the campsite/trekker’s hut to spend overnight.

Day 8 - Tshoka to Yuksom (1875 Meters) (Trek: 5-6 Hours)

On the last day of the trek, you will finally trek back to the point, from where you had started this exciting journey and will complete the trek.

Where Is Goechala?

Goechala is a mountain pass at 16,207 ft in West Sikkim, which lies on the border of Nepal and Sikkim. The trek snakes through the Kanchenjunga National Park. But it is no longer allowed to trek till the pass. So when you are on the Goechala trek, you can go to ViewPoint 1, which is at 15,100 feet and takes you close to the southwest face of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world.

Trek Distance & Duration?

The Goechala trek is 65.7 km long from Yuksom to Yuksom. And you gain close to 10,000 ft in while covering this distance. During this trek, as you reach ViewPoint 1 (15,100 ft), you come close to the south-west face of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world

Electricity in Trek?

There is no electricity throughout the trek. The only place you’ll find a plug to charge your phone or camera batteries will be Yuksom before and after the trek. Therefore use your electronic equipment wisely. Fully charge your batteries before leaving your hotel and use your electronic equipment minimally. Another thing to note the cold temperatures drain the batteries faster. Having extra batteries or a power bank helps.

How Difficult is Goechala Trek?

Goechala trek has long trekking days and climbs quickly. So, it is rated as a difficult trek because it requires a lot of endurance and exposes you to the risk of AMS. There are also no easy exits after Dzongri.
Getting to the details, this 11-day trek climbs from 5,840 ft to 15,100 ft. That’s almost an altitude gain of 10,000 ft. This climb is one of the major challenges on the trek. It exposes you to the risk of altitude sickness if you are not careful. When on this trek, be very cautious of how your body is responding to the altitude.
